BiologySources: 3, APAInstructions: To synthesize some of the knowledge acquired through this courseand other classes or experience, this paper assignment asks youto research a health condition, chronic or acute, relate somespecific attributes of the condition, and analyze how it relatesto normal age-related changes. The paper should be written as anAPA format research paper, #12 font and of at least 5 pages, notcounting the title page or reference page. 1. Select a health condition that you’re interested in(testicular Cancer survivors long term health effects). It maybe a condition that affects a family member or one that you’rejust curious about. The paper should address the following itemsof information about the health condition: • What is the prevalence of the condition in the U.S. population?• What is the pathophysiology of the condition (ie., how does itaffect the physiological processes of the body)? For example, insome forms of macular degeneration, accumulated molecular wastematerial clump within the retinal tissues, and blood vessels inthe eye leak and destroy tissues of the retina, leaving blindspots or blurry areas of vision. • How do the normal age-related changes that the body undergoesaffect this condition in pathophysiology, risk factors, prevention, or treatment? For example, diminishing elasticity ofthe artery walls with age contributes to high blood pressure, which can increase the risk for a stroke. • What are the risk factors for the health condition? Thesecould include lifestyle (poor diet, lack of exercise), heredity, race or ethnicity, exposure to toxic substances, age, gender, etc. • How do the characteristics of the condition affect activitiesof daily living and instrumental activities of daily living? Canthe affected person do everything that they were accustomed todoing, in order to maintain themselves and their home? • How can the condition be prevented altogether (primaryprevention)? • Is there a way to detect the condition before it becomesserious (secondary prevention)? • How can the condition be diagnosed? • How can the condition be cured, treated and/or managed topreserve optimal quality of life (tertiary prevention)? 2. Find additional sources of information, including at leastone research article that addresses the condition you selected. 3. Each student will write a draft of a minimum 5-page papercovering his or her chosen health condition, not including thetitle page or reference page.
